Porto Social Committment signed

On the 7th of May, 2021 key European players, including representations of the European Union institutions (Commission, European Parliament) and Social Partners (ETUC, BusinessEurope) signed a Porto Social Committment.

This document covers the broad social sphere and various aspects of the European Social Model and it's pursuit in the recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and the following years leading to the target of 2030.

Worker participation as such is not mentioned, but autonomous social dialogue and collective bargaining are - the Signatories commit to:

(...) • promote autonomous social dialogue as a structuring component of the European Social Model and strengthen it at the European, national, regional, sectorial and company levels, with special emphasis on ensuring an enabling framework for collective bargaining within the various models that exist in the Member States.

As with prior high-level political declarations of the type it remains to be seen how these statements will be impelemented and observed in concrete policy-making and to what extent the EU institutions will pursue these goals in the years to come.
