Financial Participation

Despite the efforts of the EU to boost the incidence of workers’ financial participation employee share ownership schemes in Spain are at a lower level than in the 1990s. With regard to how widespread profit-sharing schemes are in Spain recent studies come to different conclusions.

Employee financial participation plays no role in collective bargaining and trade unions accept financial participation models only in the form of additional benefits over and above normal remuneration. However, participation models other than traditional profit-sharing and share ownership schemes are practiced. Cooperative schemes might be mentioned in this connection.
